Issue 153 (Summer 2006): Editorial

2005 marked the end of Nigel Owen’s tenure as Editor of Catalogue and Index. Work – really interesting work on taxonomies, to be precise – has forced Nigel to hang up his green visor, sleeve suspenders and red pencil. After many years of solid editorial control, Nigel is missed by the CIG Committee, and, no doubt, the C&I readership familiar with his editorials.

Stuart Hunt, Commissioning Editor, C&I 153

After a long absence, this issue marks the return of Catalogue & Index. As well as staff changes, 2006 sees the beginning of changes to the format of the journal – moves are afoot to offer simultaneous print and pdf versions from the next issue (due out in October) and 2007 will see the launch of a new style of commissioning, as we introduce themed issues, beginning in January with a special on ‘CIG Today’ for which we hope you will contribute articles, anecdotes and vignettes showing the glorious diversity of cataloguing and indexing practices in the 21st century – look out for our call for papers in October.

For the moment, this issue contains articles commissioned throughout 2005 and early 2006 by Stuart Hunt, who took on the role of Editor at short notice and on top of an already heavy work-load. Many thanks to Stuart and the contributors, and, indeed, to you for waiting to see these articles in print.

If you have submitted an article in this time period and do not see it within these pages, please get in touch with me – preferably by email. It may well be that your work will be appearing in October in our ‘Conference Special’ (with added extras) and that I have not received your contact details already. Similarly, if you have comments to make about the articles in this issue or ideas for what you would like to see in C&I, drop me a line.

Anne Welsh, Editor, C&I
